Legislative Actions

One of RPEN’s chief functions is playing an active role with state lawmakers and state agencies, boards, and local governments regarding issues of interest to retired public employees. Among the major concerns of retirees are Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) pension matters and health care issues, many related to the state’s Public Employees’ Benefits Program (PEBP) and other local government health insurance plans. Our goal is to provide education about issues affecting retired public employees.

Some of the efforts of RPEN have contributed to constitutional protections of our PERS system, post-retirement increases to retiree pension benefits and an awareness of the importance of a solvent, sound retirement system. In the health care arena RPEN has sought: additional group insurance options for long-time retirees; support of subsidies to help public employee retirees meet increasing health care costs; support of options for health insurance premium rate relief for retirees; backing of a legislative study of long term health care and more.

PERS

RPEN is a strong supporter of our PERS retirement system. Our Executive Committee and Board have underscored the importance of preserving this system, to ensure that it remains solvent and viable, and that its funds are used for providing retirement benefits.
